Hello from South Carolina! I am at the house I grew up in, visiting my parents. We didn’t get a chance to get together for the holidays, so we decided to get together now. The timing of this joyful reunion couldn’t be better for me, because the kids I have started teaching at St. Williams has infected me with some sort of deadly plague. I knew that I was going to catch something, teaching 2nd and 3rd graders, but I didn’t expect it to be this soon. Fortunately, I have the entire week to recover from it before I report back to school full time.

I will be taking over for a teacher who is going out on maternity leave for the birth of her second child. I wish her family all the joy in the world. I spent last week shadowing her and next week I will be taking over her post. As much as I do not want kids of my own (for quite a number of reasons), I am a firm believer that children are our future and that they deserve the best that we can give them. The world we build today is the world we leave for them tomorrow.
